Band Camps:
Students will have the opportunity to work in both large and small group settings playing different styles of music including an introduction to Jazz and popular movie themes. Student projects include how to write music and create songs, and exploring how to play an easy jazz solo if they like!
Jazz Band Camp:
Students will have the opportunity to work in both a large ensemble (Jazz Big Band) and small combos playing jazz, Latin jazz, and rock jazz styles. Student are actively involved in organizing their own arrangements of songs in their small combo groups assisted by instructors (who are professional jazz players). Jazz Improvisation is taught using “Jazz Vocabulary” that can be easily read and then implemented into the students own solos. Students will have the opportunity to work with instructors who play Jazz Professionally around the Portland area. On our final day of camp, students will perform a concert for family and friends. There are no auditions. Students will be placed in classes according to their age and experience.
